Who? Will Jones. Who? Will Jones.

Will Jones may be young, but he has an impressive musical resume.  Some might consider Will bluegrass royalty.  Will was a member of The Cana Ramblers – an infamous family bluegrass band hailing from Cana, Virginia.  He was writing and recording his own material before most kids his age could ride without training wheels.  The Cana Ramblers’ most recognized album, No Expectations, features a song Will composed at age 12 – Cash’s Last Ride – about performing for singer Johnny Cash’s final appearance at the Carter Fold in 2003.

Since Will was a young boy he’s performed bluegrass music all over the United States in the family band.  A triplet, Will always had to earn his seat at the table.  Now is the time for Jones to make his own way in the world.  Will has set his sights on Nashville, Tennessee – looking to relocate within the year and begin work on his first solo album.

The Road Ahead

Although Will Jones grew up playing strictly bluegrass music, he has become increasingly fascinated with making moves in the alt-country world. Will’s found his niche there, blending elements of his bluegrass roots with more classic country styles, creating a signature sound that will appeal to fans across the Americana spectrum.

We were honored to have Will perform his latest original tune, Angry Blood, at the Kid in the Background studio in Beckley WV for this edition of The Prince Street Sessions. Thanks to our best good buddy Matt Mullins (The Boatmen / Matt Mullins & The Bringdowns) for linking us up! Check the schedule for Creek Bottom Brewery & Taproom in Mt. Airy or the Galax VA Taproom to see if Will Jones is performing live anytime soon… you won’t want to miss it!

*We were also super pumped to find this video of Will Jones as a bluegrass-pickin’ kid. I’m sure he won’t be glad we put this here, but you probably will 🙂
