Hailing from Marcos, Texas, Rock Bottom String Band recently invaded Kid in the Background Studios in Beckley WV for this edition of the Prince Street Sessions. Rock Bottom String Band played an amazing set the night before at Melody’s, a favorite Downtown Beckley live music venue. Bassist Ryan Seiler recalls being “hungover and at the crack of dawn” being awakened by recording engineer Jamie Smith to record the song and cut the video. Describing their sound as a mixture of “old country and blues, old punk, and a lot of whiskey”, Rock Bottom String Band rose to the occasion…sharing this unique blend of bluegrass and alt-country with punk rock values that’s sure to get your feet tappin’.
Rock Bottom String Band began as a group of five strangers playing music together and quickly evolved into a family. Frequently touring the US, RBSB rely on their friends and a set of what they call “D.I.Y values” to keep them going strong. The band is looking forward to the upcoming release of their third album, which is currently operating under the working title Can’t Choose Family. Known for their impassioned stage performances, RBSB have played everything from dive bars to outdoor music festivals, providing the inspiration for “Mark on a Map”. The melodic vocal stylings of lead singer (and “Mark on a Map” lead songwriter) Mackenzie Dart culminate with banjo, upright bass, mandolin, and a percussion section featuring everything from bottles to a soup pot. Rock Bottom String Band’s Prince Street Session is definitely one for the books.
